Overview
A not-for-profit community behavioral health center serving individuals and families was seeking a carrier to provide Voluntary Life, Dental and Vision benefits. The broker working with the center chose Guardian based on the positive experiences they have had with Guardian's Enrollment Success Program (ESP), a unique approach to enrollment that focuses on support and education, rather than selling. Guardian Benefit Advisors work with the planholder to customize the enrollment process to best meet their needs.
Challenges
The planholder wanted to have the Guardian Benefit Advisor present in the company cafeteria for five days, providing employees with the opportunity to come in and ask questions. This was requested five days before the desired employee meeting dates. Additional planholder requests included:
- Customized enrollment forms
- A waiver of the participation requirement
Solution
Guardian worked with the broker to reduce the policyholder's desired meeting times and developed true mandatory enrollment sessions with sign-in sheets. Enrollment meetings at the company's remote locations were also scheduled to follow their weekly staff meetings. Guardian's Enrollment Service Unit created custom enrollment forms and benefit and claims summaries, which were e-mailed to all employees prior to the meeting times. Employees were also provided with:
- A PDF file with DHMO and PPO dentists for their particular access area, distributed electronically.
- Vision providers for their area printed off the website and distributed for ease of locating network providers.
In addition, although enrollment was high, Guardian was able to satisfy the planholders request by eliminating the participation requirement.
The results
171 employees enrolled with Guardian and 127 enrolled in the dental program, which offered a Dual Choice DHMO/PPO. Employees saved money by choosing the DHMO and there was a 50% participation for the DHMO plan. In addition, Voluntary Life and Voluntary Vision were offered as new benefits and both of these lines exceeded 40% participation.
